Hyundai Turns the Power up with the 2012 Genesis

We here at Hudson Hyundai are pretty big fans of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis. It's a consumer friendly take on high-end luxury vehicles, which many automakers seem to be turning their backs on lately. However, while Hyundai is certainly diversifying its lineup by featuring more 40 mpg models, such as the 2012 Hyundai Veloster, it remains clear that they're not ready to pull the reins in on the Genesis either.
Case in point: the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. This new variant features the largest engine that has ever been equipped in the Genesis lineup. Specifically, it is a 5.0-liter, direct injection V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination allows for the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec to dish out 429 horsepower (hp) and 376 lb.-ft. of torque, resulting in a 0-60 mph sprint time of 5.3 seconds.
Aside from "powerful" improvements, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec also includes a handful of features that you'll be hard pressed to find in models like the 750Li and E500. The rear-view camera, lane departure system, power rear sunshade, and navigation system, for instance, are a few that come to mind.
Then there is the matter of price and power. For an astonishingly high $86,175, the Bavarian automaker's 750Li dishes out 400 horsepower from its V8 engine. Compared to the 29 extra ponies under the hood that come at nearly half the price ($47,350 MSRP), the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec is the clear choice. Then there is the Tri-Star automaker's E500... It packs a 382-horspower V8 engine under its hood. Priced at $57,975, it still can't beat Hyundai's amped up Genesis.
One thing we will admit is that the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec's increase in power is not the most fuel efficient change. Specifically, it is currently estimated at 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the lower end 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sedan is rated at 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. At Hudson Hyundai, we tend to think that the increase in power is well worth the slightly lower fuel economy.
