In Baseball, a double header is when two teams play two games against each other in the same day. Hyundai's double header involves fighting two battles, which the company greatly believes in, at the same time. First is raising awareness and funds for the fight against childhood cancer. The second is against our dependence on fossil fuels. How can these two issues be combated at the same time? The answer is simple: Through the Hyundai Drive 4 Hope.

The Hyundai Drive 4 Hope is actually a part of Hope on Wheels, which is the South Korean automaker's ongoing pediatric cancer program. This new event kicked off on September 1^st, 2011, and features the new Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). Throughout this month, the Hyundai Tucson FCEV will be traveling coast to coast, visiting various children's hospitals along the way. As the exciting new FCEV makes its stops, patients will be able to place a colorful handprint on the vehicle.

"Hyundai is committed to bold and innovative change to make the world a better place," said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "Through Hope on Wheels, we are making great strides in the treatment of childhood cancer and through our leadership in fuel cell technology, we are making bold strides for a cleaner planet."¹

As the Tucson FCEV makes its way across the country; Hyundai will donate a total of $7.1 million to various children's hospitals. By the end of its trip, the new Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle from Hyundai is expected to clock in 4,500 miles in 15 different states... All within 30 days. Adding to the excitement is the fact that Zafar Brooks, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Hyundai, and Joe Foster, Hyundai Drive 4 Hope Field Leader, will be tracking how the Tucson FCEV performs, blogging actively along the way.

For Hyundai, the Tucson FCEV represents the future of automotive commuting. Fuel cell technology differs from other alternative fuel vehicles because it represents both a zero-carbon emissions solution and an alternative fuel platform that requires little to no sacrifice in performance. Unlike typical battery powered EVs, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles require no lengthy recharging, and they can travel for up to 400 miles before needing to refuel.

Michael O'Brien, vice president of product and corporate planning of Hyundai Motor America, offered explains, "Several manufacturers are actively exploring fuel cell technology, but Hyundai is making it a reality with the ability to begin factory production of fuel cell cars and trucks in the next several years."²
